AXA XL bolsters Indian team with several senior appointments

AXA XL, the property and casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of global insurer AXA, has strengthened its Indian Branch with the appointments of Saurabh Bhootara, Priya Manchanda, Vinod Kumar, Saumitra Sharma, and Akash Jain in Mumbai.

The additions follow the recent appointment of Alok Shukla as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of XL Insurance Company SE, India Reinsurance Branch on April 1st, 2025.

The entire team is based in Mumbai and aims to enhance AXA XL’s ability to deliver tailored facultative solutions to clients and brokers in India.

Bhootara, who joined on April 1st, 2025, has been appointed as Property, Energy, and Construction Underwriter. He brings over 15 years of experience in property and engineering underwriting and risk assessment, most recently with Liberty Mutual.

Manchanda, with a decade of industry experience, joined on April 8th, 2025, as Claims Specialist. Most recently, she worked at WTW India, and has spent four years of direct engagement with clients and brokers.

Kumar brings over 13 years of risk management across cyber, casualty, and property lines. On May 6th, 2025, he was promoted to the role of Assistant Underwriter.

Sharma has over two decades of industry experience and joined AXA XL on May 12th, 2025, as Chief Underwriting Officer from Swiss Re.

Jain joined on May 14th, 2025, as an Underwriting Assistant. He brings 11 years of operational experience, managing facultative and treaty programmes at K.M. Dastur Reinsurance Brokers.

All the appointments underscore the firm’s commitment to the Indian market and support its growth ambitions in the region.
